Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) has reached an important milestone in its $3 billion expansion plan, successfully transporting six giant modules to the expansion area of Terminal C. This engineering feat was accomplished at night, using self-propelled modular transport vehicles to safely move the largest module (204 feet long, 68 feet wide, and weighing 1,200 tons) across two closed runways.
This achievement marks DFW's continuous innovation in modular construction. The airport has pre-installed key facilities, including mechanical and electrical, fire protection and piping systems, before the modules are transported to shorten the construction period and reduce on-site construction interference. This modular approach is being applied in Terminal A, Terminal C and the future expansion of Terminal F.
This project is being advanced in collaboration with American Airlines. It is planned to add nine boarding gates by 2026, completely rebuild the existing Terminal C, and build a new adjacent parking building to support the expansion needs.
Sean Donohue, the CEO of DFW, said, "We are constantly promoting innovative construction methods, which is part of our move towards future airports."
