The Hillsborough County Aviation Authority Board has officially approved Delta Air Lines as the anchor tenant for Tampa International Airport’s (TPA) highly anticipated Airside D terminal.
Slated to open in 2028, the $1.5 billion project marks TPA’s first new Airside terminal in nearly 20 years. As part of the agreement, Delta will occupy at least six gates and operate a lounge on the Mezzanine level. The contract spans up to 20 years, reinforcing the airline’s long-term commitment to Tampa.
With over 65 years of service at TPA, Delta is the airport’s longest-operating domestic airline. Currently, the carrier operates six gates at Airside E, along with a Delta Sky Club, serving 13 destinations with an average of 36 daily departures in 2024.
TPA CEO Joe Lopano expressed enthusiasm about the extended partnership:
"Delta has been a wonderful partner as one of Tampa International Airport’s longest-operating and largest air carriers, and we’re thrilled to now extend that partnership to TPA’s future Airside D. This agreement will bring a world-class airline to what will be a world-class facility for our international and domestic routes."
Delta continues to grow its footprint at TPA. In October 2024, the airline launched nonstop service to Amsterdam, its most-served European destination, and is set to introduce a new nonstop route to Austin later this year.
Over the past decade, Delta and its partner airlines have transported nearly 33 million domestic and over 1 million international passengers through TPA.
Once completed, Airside D will house 16 gates designed for both international and domestic travel, offering state-of-the-art amenities, enhanced connectivity, and an improved passenger experience at one of Florida’s busiest airports.
