Qatar Aviation Services (QAS), in partnership with MATAR and Qatar Science & Technology Park (QSTP), has launched a pioneering trial of autonomous vehicles at Hamad International Airport (DOH), marking a first-of-its-kind initiative in the region. Launched on February 16, the trial involves testing self-driving staff buses and baggage tractors equipped with GPS, AI-powered systems, and advanced sensors. These vehicles are engineered for around-the-clock operation, capable of performing safely and efficiently in diverse weather conditions, and feature real-time monitoring alongside automated charging. Hamad Ali Al Khater, Chief Operating Officer at Hamad International Airport, emphasized the airport's role as a regional leader in smart mobility solutions: “This initiative demonstrates our commitment to innovation by integrating autonomous technology to boost efficiency, safety, and sustainability.” Echoing this sentiment, Murat Nursel, Senior Vice President at QAS, stated: “This trial reinforces our long-term vision and showcases our commitment to innovation and operational excellence, aligned with Qatar’s broader goals.”
