The New Terminal One at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) has chosen TCR, a leading provider of ground support equipment (GSE) solutions, to deliver a fully electric GSE fleet for the new international terminal, scheduled to open in 2026.
In a global first for the aviation industry, this initiative underscores the New Terminal One’s commitment to environmental sustainability. The all-electric GSE fleet will be shared among ground handlers—companies responsible for ramp services such as baggage loading and aircraft towing—marking the first time a centralized, fully electric GSE fleet has been implemented at any airport terminal worldwide.
This innovative shared model reduces environmental impact, lowers costs, and optimizes equipment usage compared to the traditional approach where ground handlers individually own or lease their equipment.
The New Terminal One is a cornerstone of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey’s $19 billion transformation of JFK Airport into a world-class travel hub. The redevelopment includes two new terminals, upgrades and expansions of existing terminals, a new ground transportation center, and a simplified roadway network.
Jennifer Aument, Chief Executive Officer of The New Terminal One, stated:
“Our team at the New Terminal One is committed to creating an unparalleled travel experience while advancing environmental sustainability. We are delighted to partner with TCR on this innovative collaboration for all-electric ground support equipment, ensuring seamless operations for our partner airlines and a best-in-class experience for their customers.”
Kristof Philips, CEO of TCR Airport Solutions, added:
“We are thrilled to contribute to this groundbreaking initiative. This project highlights our dedication to sustainability and innovation, setting a new global benchmark for the aviation industry.”
Stephanie Rajzbaum, TCR Managing Director for North America, remarked:
“Expanding our presence in North America is a significant milestone for TCR. We look forward to collaborating with local communities and partners, fostering a diverse workplace, and creating approximately 50 local jobs, including positions for electric GSE maintenance technicians. Together, we’ll contribute to the success of the New Terminal One.”
