Aurrigo will deploy its AutoShuttle and Auto-DollyTug at Teesside Airport under a nearly £1 million contract, marking the first time the two autonomous systems are integrated at a live airport.
The AutoShuttle will begin transporting passengers from aircraft steps to the terminal in mid-October, while the fully driverless Auto-DollyTug—designed for cargo and baggage transport—will launch in January 2026. Both technologies will undergo rigorous testing at the airport’s new Connected Autonomous Mobility Test centre landside before moving airside early next year, with the Auto-DollyTug set to support bulk baggage operations for aircraft hold loading.
Equipped with 360° obstacle detection, advanced situational awareness, a patented sideways drive system, 360° tank turn capabilities and integrated robotic arms, the Auto-DollyTug can manoeuvre in tight spaces and autonomously load/unload Unit Load Devices (ULDs) to streamline workflows.
Aurrigo CEO David Keene highlighted the vehicles’ role in cutting carbon emissions and boosting airside efficiency, aligning with aviation’s net-zero goals. Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen noted the deployment will drive jobs, investment and global recognition for the region, while Teesside International Airport Managing Director Phil Forster emphasized the technology will enable smoother, greener baggage transport from check-in to aircraft.
