KLM has introduced the Goldhofer Phoenix AST2E electric tow tractor—leased through TCR—into its ground operations fleet, marking a key move toward the airline’s target of achieving net zero emissions for ground services by 2030. This new electric model is set to replace the existing diesel tow tractors, bringing a host of operational and environmental benefits.
Capable of pushing and towing a wide range of aircraft, the Goldhofer Phoenix AST2E handles everything from smaller aircraft models up to large Boeing 777s, delivering reliable performance to match KLM’s diverse ground operation needs. Beyond its strong operational capability, the electric tow tractor stands out for its eco-friendly and user-centric design: it operates with zero emissions and significantly lower noise levels compared to diesel alternatives, while its upgraded suspension system enhances driving comfort for ground crew.
KLM notes that the adoption of these electric tow tractors will yield dual improvements for its apron operations: not only will it foster a more comfortable and pleasant working environment for on-site staff, but it will also boost air quality on the apron, aligning practical operational upgrades with the airline’s sustainability commitments.
