Backed by a $3 million investment from dnata, Orlando Airport’s "Station of Tomorrow" sets a new benchmark for U.S. ground handling, featuring a 14-unit fully electric GSE fleet, advanced passenger services, telematics, resource management, virtual training and anti-collision systems. Developed in partnership with Lufthansa Group, Oshkosh AeroTech, Evitado Technologies and AVIAR, the project aims to boost local economic growth by strengthening the regional aviation sector.
David Barker, dnata’s Regional CEO for Americas, emphasized that the initiative—rooted at the company’s U.S. headquarters in Orlando—delivers scalable solutions to elevate operational performance, safety and service quality for airline partners and passengers, with plans to replicate the model across dnata’s 22 U.S. locations. Industry partners echoed positive feedback: Jörg Mnich of Lufthansa Group highlighted the long-standing collaboration embodied by Discover Airlines as the launch customer, while Discover Airlines’ Lars Michael Wendel underscored the e-GSE and anti-collision system’s role in balancing eco-friendly operations and high safety standards.
The station’s integrated digital platform streamlines end-to-end ground handling processes, from planning and scheduling to execution and reporting. Real-time telematics track equipment performance for data-driven efficiency gains and link to the learning management system for staff qualification, paired with VR scenario-based training for risk-free skill-building. Additionally, AI-powered monitoring optimizes baggage and ramp operations, while resource management tools ensure agile workforce and equipment allocation, and collision avoidance systems further enhance towing operation safety.
