Swissport has successfully completed Switzerland’s first fully-electric aircraft turnaround, covering passenger boarding and disembarking, baggage and cargo handling, and aircraft servicing. The all-electric operation cuts CO₂ emissions while maintaining a seamless, efficient turnaround process.
The milestone was delivered using a full suite of electric ground support equipment: electric baggage tractors, pushback tractors, passenger boarding stairs, and conveyor belt loaders.
At Geneva Airport, 60% of Swissport’s GSE fleet is electric — including all baggage tractors, plus more than half of belt loaders, ground power units, passenger stairs, and service vehicles. Since 2024, Swissport has invested over 3 million Swiss francs in eGSE at the airport.
Bruno Stefani, CEO of Swissport Switzerland, Italy and France, stated: “Working closely with our airline and airport partners, every step we take to electrify our fleet reduces emissions and builds a more sustainable future for aviation. Our strategic investments and operational expertise let Swissport set the standard for sustainable ground handling.”
Globally, around 26% of Swissport’s GSE fleet is electric, with a public target to reach 55% electric by 20232.
