Swissport has inked a partnership agreement with the Lufthansa Group, under which it will handle a suite of ground services for the group’s flights at London Heathrow Airport through 2030. The deal covers over 40 daily flights, encompassing passenger services, ramp operations, baggage management, aircraft cleaning, cargo handling, and lounge hospitality.
The scope of services will extend to flights operated by four Lufthansa Group carriers: Austrian Airlines, Brussels Airlines, Lufthansa, and Swiss International Air Lines. This collaboration marks an expansion of the long-standing partnership between Swissport and the Lufthansa Group, now reaching the latter’s largest overseas hub.
Karen Cox, CEO of Swissport UK and Ireland, expressed pride in the extended partnership: “We are delighted to bring our operational expertise to the Lufthansa Group’s flagship overseas airport. Operational excellence is a cornerstone of our service commitment to partners, and this contract presents a valuable opportunity to showcase this capability across the four airlines.”
To support the new contract, Swissport has made significant investments in Ground Support Equipment (GSE), with over 80% of the new fleet set to be electric. This move aligns with sustainability goals while enhancing operational efficiency. Additionally, the new equipment will be fitted with advanced damage protection safety systems to ensure utmost reliability and safety.
Beyond Heathrow, Swissport already provides comprehensive services to Lufthansa Group airlines across key airports in the UK and Ireland, including Birmingham, London Gatwick, Newcastle, Cork, and Dublin. The new Heathrow contract further strengthens its footprint as a trusted service partner for the group in the region.
