World-leading aviation ground handling service providers WFS and Menzies Aviation have finalized a cooperation agreement to offer comprehensive ground handling services at the new Terminal One of New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK). The partnership was secured through a rigorous competitive bidding process with in-depth participation from the terminal's airline partners, highlighting the two companies' professional capabilities.
Their services cover both "above-wing" and "below-wing" scenarios: Above-wing services focus on core passenger needs, including check-in, baggage handling, arrival assistance, and emergency support for irregular flights. Below-wing services rely on professional teams, fully adopting electric Ground Support Equipment (eGSE) while adhering to safety and efficiency standards, contributing to the airport's green transition.
Under the plan, WFS and Menzies will obtain operational licenses and sign direct agreements with airlines. Guided by the principles of "efficiency, safety, and excellence," they will enhance terminal quality and create jobs in passenger services, tarmac support, and other areas.
As the carrier of this cooperation, the new Terminal One is the centerpiece of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's $1.9 billion JFK renovation project, which includes 2 new terminals, renovation/expansion of 2 existing ones, and construction of a new transportation hub and road network. The terminal will feature North America's first shared eGSE fleet, supporting the Port Authority's 2050 net-zero emission commitment and complying with its 2022 regulation (requiring full adoption of zero-emission GSE at the region's three major airports by 2030).
Marisa Von Wieding, VP of Operations at the new Terminal One, stated that selecting WFS and Menzies underscores their commitment to building a benchmark terminal. John Redmond, EVP of Menzies Aviation Americas, expressed pride in participating in this landmark project reshaping passenger experience. Paul Walton, senior executive at WFS, emphasized that the partnership continues their long-standing relationship with JFK and will deliver world-class services based on professional experience.
