Airport Handling will launch a brand-new cargo facility at the Cargo City of Milan Malpensa Airport. The facility covers an area of 10,000 square meters and is expected to handle up to 100,000 tons of cargo annually. According to the plan, the cargo facility will officially commence operations in September 2027 and will create 200 new job positions. This business expansion of Airport Handling is due to its successful bid in the competitive tender organized by the SEA Group, the operator of Milan Malpensa and Linatex airports.
It is worth noting that the cargo facility will fully align with dnata Group's global sustainable development strategy and incorporate a number of energy-saving solutions, including photovoltaic panels for renewable energy supply, advanced insulation materials, and efficient LED lighting systems. The warehouses and office areas within the facility will maximize the use of natural light, while being equipped with low-energy heating and cooling systems. The site will also build infrastructure suitable for low-emission ground operations.
Alberto Morosi, the CEO of Airport Handling, said: "Milan is a regional core hub in the aviation and trade sector. Driven by cross-border e-commerce, pharmaceutical products, and perishable goods, we see a strong and sustainable growth foundation for the cargo business in this region. We have extensive experience in apron operations and passenger services, which provides a solid operational guarantee for the addition of new cargo services - integrating cargo services into our business portfolio is a natural extension of our company's development."
Francesco Raschi, the Director of Cargo and Real Estate at SEA Milan Airport, pointed out: "This milestone event marks a key step in the continuous development process of the Malpensa Cargo City, further strengthening its core position as a strategic logistics hub in Europe. Working with the global aviation service leader dnata demonstrates our firm commitment to excellence and innovation in the field of cargo infrastructure."
