Leading drone consultancy Drone Major has partnered with defence photonics firm olee.space to launch an innovative laser-based anti-drone technology in the UK, US and EU. European airports have long suffered disruptions from rogue drones, and this new solution offers a low-cost alternative to traditional defences.
Powered by high-power fibre lasers, the system can neutralise drones within 3 seconds at a maximum range of 6 km, costing under £1 per interception. It is compatible with mainstream detection devices, causes no collateral damage and suits deployment in densely populated and sensitive areas. The technology has passed rigorous field tests by the Indian Armed Forces in diverse environments.
This technology will greatly upgrade the UK’s anti-drone capacity and boost domestic manufacturing for national critical infrastructure including airports, energy facilities and military forces. Executives from both firms stated the partnership will plug gaps against drone swarm threats, elevate Britain’s position in global counter-drone innovation and strengthen the local industrial chain and supply chain resilience.
