The traditional airport ground handling operation model is undergoing a transformation. British company Aurrigo recently announced that it has received nearly £700,000 in funding to expand its innovative autonomous cargo and passenger transport services at East Midlands Airport, marking the transition of its "multi-fleet" operation model from concept to reality.
This investment will enable Aurrigo to simultaneously deploy its largest Auto-Cargo freight vehicle and an eight-seat Auto-Shuttle bus to work in tandem in a real airport environment. This is not only about technical validation but also about how to reshape the efficiency of airport logistics and passenger flow.
"This is about validating a multi-fleet operation model," explained David Keene, CEO of Aurrigo. "At the same time, the valuable insights we gain from real-world operational scenarios will be directly fed back into the solutions we are constantly refining, paving the way for large-scale application."
This project is part of Aurrigo's efforts to promote sustainable airport innovation and also demonstrates the huge commercial potential of autonomous driving technology in specific closed scenarios.
