Fortbrand, the aviation leasing firm owned by Basalt funds, has strengthened its position in the industry through the acquisition of Xcēd from Sasser. The combined entity will cater to a diverse roster of clients—including ground handlers, passenger airlines, airports and cargo companies—across over 190 airports, leveraging a fleet of more than 4,900 pieces of aviation equipment.
Jared Verano, President and CEO of Fortbrand, expressed enthusiasm about the deal, noting that welcoming Xcēd’s customers and employees into the Fortbrand family aligns with the company’s long-term growth strategy. He emphasized that the acquisition will expand the firm’s asset base, enhance customer service capabilities and accelerate business expansion, while the enlarged network will enable faster response times, broader equipment offerings and access to a more experienced professional team.
Jeff Walsh, CEO of Sasser, reflected on Xcēd’s decade-long journey, highlighting that the company was built into an innovative, customer-focused ground support equipment (GSE) leasing business with a strong industry reputation. He conveyed pride in the team’s achievements and excitement to witness Fortbrand and Xcēd embark on their next phase of development. Sal Calvino, a Fortbrand investor and board member since 2019, underscored that the acquisition will establish Fortbrand as a leader in aviation equipment leasing, rental and servicing across North America. Wil Jones, partner at Basalt, added that both Fortbrand and Xcēd are key providers of mission-critical air transportation equipment, and Basalt looks forward to supporting the growth of the merged business.
Legal and financial advisors played key roles in the transaction: Foley & Lardner LLP acted as legal counsel to Fortbrand, while Wells Fargo served as exclusive financial advisor and Mayer Brown LLP as legal counsel to Sasser.
