IATA Has Optimized The Multi-step Processes in Its 2025 Cargo Ground Handling Manual

This batch of manuals contains multiple revisions and updates, aiming to align with the continuously evolving industry standards, regulatory requirements of various countries, and differences in airline operations.

The update scope covers five core documents: dangerous goods transportation rules (DGR), battery transportation rules (BSR), live animal transportation rules (LAR), airport operation manual (AHM), and humane transportation manual (CTM).

In terms of dangerous goods transportation rules (DGR), this update adds 10 new categories of dangerous goods, including sodium-ion batteries and fire extinguishing spray devices; three new specific items have been added for electric transportation vehicles; and safety control requirements related to the state of charge of batteries have also been supplemented.

The rules for lithium battery transportation have been integrated into the new battery transportation rules (BSR), which have a broader application scope and cover sodium-ion organic electrolyte batteries, acidic and alkaline liquid leakage-type batteries, non-leakage-type batteries, and other low-regulation-level battery categories.

The live animal transportation rules (LAR) have completed the update and revision of the technical specifications for animal transportation containers, and have incorporated the reference content of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and the World Conservation Union (IUCN) species database, providing a compliance basis for the air transportation of endangered species.

The airport operation manual (AHM) has added operation norms related to contactless travel, including revisions to the management policies for unruly passengers and optimization of the travel document verification process; the manual has also added reference standards related to the International Air Transport Association Environmental Assessment (IEnvA), providing guidance for airport environmental management work; and the content of the IATA Skills Certification Training Passport has been updated to facilitate the standardization of industry skills.
