Lödige Industries To Upgrade Korean Air’s JFK Cargo Terminal

Lödige Industries will modernize Korean Air’s JFK cargo terminal, a key East Coast cargo gateway for the airline. The upgrade will introduce two fully automated Elevated Transfer Vehicles (ETVs) and replace fixed transfer vehicles with Cargo Pallet Movers to boost ULD handling efficiency, capacity and transport flexibility, while optimizing space utilization. Additionally, 14 workstations will be updated to modern models, and cool chain facilities will be enhanced via a new refrigerated warehouse, upgrades to existing temperature-controlled areas, and renewal of key components like temperature controllers and conveyors.
Junho Choi, Korean Air’s Regional Cargo Manager for New York, Washington and Boston, noted that JFK is critical to the airline’s global network, and the modernization with cutting-edge automation will ensure long-term efficiency, higher safety standards and greater sustainability. Jonathan Hardy, Lödige Industries’ North America Managing Director, echoed this, emphasizing the project’s role in securing these operational improvements for Korean Air.
Opened in December 2000, Korean Air’s JFK cargo terminal is one of the largest on the U.S. East Coast, with a 17,065m² warehouse and annual handling capacity of 200,000 tons. The modernization is set to further strengthen its ability to meet global air cargo demand.
