Menzies Aviation has strengthened its cargo handling capabilities with the acquisition of Spirit Cargo Handling, a former subsidiary of SAS Ground Handling Norway. The deal is set to boost Menzies’ annual cargo handling capacity by 150,000 tonnes, marking a significant expansion of its operations in Europe.
Post-acquisition, the newly integrated business will prioritize handling high-demand specialty goods such as salmon, alongside general cargo and freighter services. Menzies will assume full responsibility for Spirit’s existing assets and operations, including the cargo warehouse at Oslo Gardermoen Airport, employee contracts, and ongoing freighter services.
Following the completion of the transaction, Spirit’s cargo operations will be rebranded under the Menzies Aviation umbrella, aligning the business with the company’s global brand identity.
Miguel Gomez Sjunnesson, Executive Vice President Europe at Menzies Aviation, commented on the acquisition: “The addition of this new cargo station to our global network is a key milestone in building momentum in strategic European markets. It further reinforces our commitment to supporting the region’s growing cargo sector.”
Beau Paine, Executive Vice President Cargo at Menzies Aviation, added: “As we continue to expand our global cargo footprint, our focus remains on delivering operational excellence, reliability, and innovative solutions—core pillars that position us as the cargo provider of choice for our customers.”
