TaxiBot is a semi-automated electric traction device that can replace the main engine of an aircraft during the taxiing phase from the aircraft stand to the runway, effectively reducing fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and noise pollution during the taxiing process. This device has previously completed tests at Schiphol Airport. Currently, EasyJet has applied it to three Airbus A320neo aircraft, and Schiphol has become the first airport in Europe to use an electric TaxiBot for Airbus passenger aircraft.
The data shows that using this equipment for a single flight can save approximately 95 kilograms of fuel, reduce 299 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions, and lower the noise level on the runway. When fully implemented, the fuel consumption during aircraft taxiing can be reduced by up to 65%, and various pollutant emissions will also be significantly decreased. This will not only improve the air quality at the airport but also optimize the working environment for ground crew.
Menzis Airlines, as the local ground support partner, is responsible for the daily operation, personnel training, and coordination of scheduling of this equipment. This enterprise, which has been deeply rooted in the local area for over thirty years, has brought this technology to the airport and the airline, thereby fulfilling the carbon reduction goal. Currently, Menzis is promoting the implementation of various energy-saving measures at its global branches, aiming to help the company achieve net zero emissions in its operations by 2045.
