At around 4:40 p.m. local time on June 7, 2026, a storm occurred near the T2 terminal of Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India. This caused the ground support equipment to shift and collide with three parked narrow-body Indian Airlines aircraft. The accident did not result in any casualties, and there were no passengers on board at the time of the incident.
According to local media reports, strong winds and heavy rain caused the boarding stairs and supports to drift away from the adjacent parking position and hit the parked aircraft. The three involved aircraft are all of the Airbus A320 series. Two of them are expected to resume operation soon, while the other one requires further maintenance and is currently in a standstill for inspection.
Regarding the ownership of the damaged equipment, there is currently a dispute. It is reported that the equipment belongs to both the Indian Aviation Engineering Department and the Indigo Aviation Engineering Department, but the Indigo Aviation side has denied this claim.
Furthermore, local reports indicate that the storm arrived suddenly, catching the airport operators and airlines off guard. However, this claim has not yet been independently confirmed by the aviation authorities. As of now, Air India has not publicly disclosed the specific extent of the losses caused by the incident.
