Swissport has officially launched ground handling services at Frankfurt Airport. The initial operation covers both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, providing support for the early morning flights of Air France, KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and Polish Airlines. The implementation of this business marks an accelerated expansion of Swissport's presence in the German market. The Frankfurt Airport site is expected to rapidly grow into its largest core operation base in Germany and one of the top-ranked in Europe.
Currently, Swissport has deployed 350 staff members at this site. To meet the demands of new airlines and fill the capacity gap during peak travel seasons, the company plans to continuously recruit new employees on a monthly basis. This summer, recruitment efforts will be further intensified, with a focus on staffing for ground support services for wide-body aircraft flights. It is noted that the related services for wide-body aircraft are currently handled by a third-party service provider, which subcontracts the relevant business in accordance with the ground support license agreement. The cooperation period ends on October 31, 2025.
Swissport's ground handling license for Frankfurt Airport was granted by the Hesse State Department of Transport through a competitive bidding process in August 2024. The license is valid for a period of up to seven years, which means that Swissport can provide comprehensive ground handling services to all airlines operating at Frankfurt Airport, laying a solid foundation for its business expansion.
Worick Brady, the President and CEO of Swissport International, said: "This successful implementation confirms our consistent commitment to quality, reliability and safety - these core values have earned us the trust of the German regulatory authorities and our aviation partners. We are sincerely grateful for all the support, especially before the operation began, when a competitor who had been eliminated suddenly caused disruptions and challenges. This support was particularly precious. Swissport will deepen its presence in the Frankfurt market, steadily develop, and continue to contribute to the overall development of Frankfurt Airport in the coming years."
