Vestergaard will showcase the fully-electric Elephant e-BETA at the International GSE Expo, scheduled to take place in Las Vegas from September 16 to 18. The cutting-edge aircraft de-icer will be on display at outdoor stand P330, offering attendees a first-hand look at its eco-friendly design and advanced functionality.
Engineered with a Vestergaard electrical chassis and a 145kWh lithium-ion battery, the Elephant e-BETA is built for practicality: it can complete an entire work shift on a single charge, with all operational functions running on electric power to achieve zero emissions during use. For airports lacking pre-heated fluid infrastructure, the model is equipped with a 600 kW diesel heater that can supply hot de-icing fluid within 10–15 minutes of being filled, ensuring operational efficiency without compromising on performance.
Stefan Vestergaard, CEO of Vestergaard Company, emphasized the significance of the fully electric variant: “The launch of the Elephant e-BETA reaffirms our dedication to delivering sustainable, future-proof solutions for the ground support sector. We’re proud to offer an aircraft de-icer that balances reliable operation with a drastically reduced environmental impact.”
The Elephant BETA has a long legacy of innovation, first introduced in 1983 and continuously updated over the decades. In 2019, Vestergaard took a key step toward electrification with the hybrid-electric Elephant BETA, which operates primarily on electric power while allowing drivers to engage the truck engine (and its attached generator) for added flexibility when needed. The fully electric e-BETA represents the next evolution of this iconic product line, aligning with the aviation industry’s growing focus on decarbonization.
