Worldwide Flight Services (WFS) has made a key stride in its sustainability drive by deploying Goldhofer Sherpa E6 electric cargo towing trucks, supplied by TCR, at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. These emission-free vehicles now support ramp and cargo handling for over 50 airlines at the hub, with WFS aiming to switch to a fully electric towing fleet by the end of Q2 2025. The deployment came after rigorous testing of multiple demo tractors in collaboration with TCR, and WFS has invested in an 80-minute fast-charging system to ensure optimal vehicle availability amid busy operations.
At Schiphol, WFS operates four 17,500-square-meter warehouses certified to GDP and IATA CEIV Pharma standards. The electric towing fleet not only aligns with SATS’ and WFS’ ESG priorities and zero-emission goals but also boosts operational safety and employee well-being—thanks to low noise levels, enhanced comfort, and an improved tow hitch that reduces manual lifting needs.
Stéphane Scholving, WFS Netherlands Managing Director, highlighted the initiative’s role in advancing sustainability and improving working conditions, while TCR’s Sales & Business Development Manager Rob Spijker noted the Goldhofer Sherpa E6 matches diesel tractor performance without emissions. With additional electric vehicles on order, WFS is on track to complete its all-electric towing fleet transition at Schiphol by Q2 2025, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable aviation logistics.
