  • is a crucial step towards achieving zero emissions for airport ground transportation by 2030. This project is part of the EU-supported TULIPS program. The core of the pilot project consists of two hydrogen energy vehicles - an aircraft tractor used to tow Royal Dutch Airlines' Boeing 737 passenger planes, and a Toyota hydrogen-powered pickup truck for the airport's bird control team, along with a temporary hydrogen refueling station.

  • To enhance communication efficiency in high-voltage apron environments, dBD Communications has partnered with PrimeFlight. The wireless system was initially deployed in de-icing operations and achieved success. Building on this, PrimeFlight has further selected dBD Communications to support its aircraft pushback, towing, and cargo handling operations.

  • The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, along with JFK Millennium Partners (JMP), have selected Fortbrand Company to implement an innovative shared electric ground support equipment (GSE) management system for the newly-built T6 terminal at Kennedy Airport. This system breaks away from the traditional practice of each ground support agent having their own fleet, instead providing 10 bridges in the terminal with unified equipment and shared usage. Through real-time monitoring, remote charging, and vehicle networking technology for refined management, it is expected to reduce approximately 2,500 tons of carbon emissions annually and significantly enhance operational efficiency and safety. The T6 terminal will be phased in over two stages, with the first set of bridges scheduled to open next year and the full completion expected in 2028.

  • Menzies Aviation has launched a brand-new high-end cargo terminal "M1" at Sydney Airport, increasing its freight facilities in Sydney to three. The total storage area exceeds 20,000 square meters and the annual handling capacity reaches 2.5 million tons. The facility is equipped with airside access roads and multiple cargo positions, focusing on temperature-controlled and e-commerce goods handling. It has already been selected as the first customer by Cathay Pacific Cargo and United Airlines. This expansion has significantly enhanced Menzies' operational capabilities in the Sydney air cargo market (with annual cargo volume exceeding 600,000 tons), and through its global network and local logistics system, supports the efficient operation of airlines and freight partners.
  • Luxcargo Handling has achieved an operational digital upgrade by adopting IBS iCargo CTO, enabling digital priority business functions such as barcode scanning operations (including real-time data collection). This move will increase its data-driven processes, enhance real-time visibility and controllability of operations, and help accelerate the paperless process, achieve digitalization of workflows through mobile enhancements, and ensure compliance with industry standards.   • Garsite showcased its new towing tractors at the NBAA-BACE exhibition, featuring two main variants. The standard ramp-ready model, built with a heavy-duty carbon steel body, is equipped with either a gasoline or diesel engine, an automatic transmission, and delivers a 5,000-pound drawbar pull. A special spec unit, displayed in the venue lobby, stands out with a powerful 850-horsepower Dodge Hellcat V8 supercharged engine. Terry Bosserman, Garsite’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted that the towing tractor is engineered to meet the highest standards of ground operations, focusing on safety, performance, efficiency, reliability, and durability.   • SAASA has expanded its partnership with Air France-KLM by launching passenger services, ramp operations and dispatch support for three daily flights at Mexico City's Benito Juarez Airport since October 1, with an investment of over $3.4 million in modern ground support equipment. Having entered the Mexican market via the acquisition of Globalia Handling in 2022, SAASA already provides handling services for Air France-KLM in Peru and serves other clients like Iberia, Hainan Airlines and UPS across Mexican airports. SAASA’s CEO highlighted that this cooperation marks the company’s consolidated international market position, with a commitment to delivering operational excellence.
  • dnata has reached a cooperation agreement with the Silk Way Group of Azerbaijan to establish a joint venture responsible for the operation services of the Arat International Airport. The joint venture will be officially launched in 2027 when the airport commences operations. The Arat International Airport is located in the Arat Free Economic Zone, with an annual cargo handling capacity of over 500,000 tons planned. It is expected that the average annual growth rate of cargo volume will reach 5% in the next ten years. The airport is equipped with 18 parking stands and a 4,000-meter runway, among other complete facilities.   • On October 26, Swissport launched passenger and ramp services at New Chitose Airport, supporting Eastar Jet's daily flights between Sapporo and Busan. As a key step in its northern Japan expansion, Swissport has invested in winter-specific GSE and created 50 seasonal jobs for local workers, ensuring safe and efficient operations during Hokkaido's winter tourism peak.
  • Gatwick Ground Services (GGS) has achieved notable operational upgrades since deploying eight Power Stow Rollertrack Conveyors last year. The system has cut manual baggage handling, enhanced workplace safety, optimized aircraft turnarounds and resource efficiency, and supported BA Euroflyer’s transition from containerised to bulk baggage loading – a move to boost fuel efficiency and address capacity gaps at destination airports. Initially met with scepticism by Gatwick ramp staff due to perceived complexity, the conveyors gained widespread acceptance after phased training, with handlers later relying on the equipment for daily tasks. The system has reduced staff injuries, streamlined resource allocation, lowered baggage damage rates, and proved robust in operations, with TCR providing reliable maintenance. GGS and Power Stow plan to extend their partnership by trialling the Tail Loader.
  • Assaia's 2025 AI Turnaround Report highlights the remarkable operational enhancements brought by its AI technology to adopting airports. Key achievements include a 25% reduction in departure delays, a 5% improvement in gate efficiency, and the capacity to handle one extra flight per day for every 20 gates, with average departure delays cut to just three minutes. In Europe, airports using Assaia's solution reported 12-minute departure delays—6 minutes below the regional average of 18 minutes—resulting in nearly $600 in savings per turnaround and over $70 million in annual savings for large airports.
  • KLM has finalized a two-year collective labour agreement (CLA) (effective retroactively from March 1, 2025, to February 28, 2027) with five trade unions (CNV, De Unie, FNV, NVLT, VKP) representing its ground staff. The agreement includes a 3.25% cumulative salary increase (implemented in three phases), one-time net payments for full-time employees, and permanent benefits such as the extended "80-90-100 scheme" for older workers and the Early Retirement Scheme for those in physically demanding roles. It also adjusts the profit-sharing scheme, adds a technician-specific addendum, and modernizes the social plan. Negotiations took multiple stages, with final consensus reached after involving an external intermediary. The unions will now submit the CLA to their members for approval.
  • Aviator renews its ground handling contract with Turkish Airlines at Helsinki Airport, extending a partnership initiated in 2023. The renewed deal retains Aviator’s provision of passenger handling, ramp operations and de-icing services for 60 monthly Turkish Airlines flights. Kimmo Holopainen of Aviator Finland cites service quality as a key competitive advantage, while noting the alliance’s long-standing collaboration with the carrier since 2012 at Copenhagen Airport.
